Philanthrope is a non profit, non commercial organization striving to make the most vulnerable communities safer from natural and manmade disasters through awareness, preparedness and mitigation. The organization has been working in partnership with government organizations, and Corporate Sectors in conducting programmes on training and capacity building, Community Preparedness, School Safety, Knowledge building, urban risk reduction etc.

The organization aims at making Every person aware of essential basics of tackling emergency situations and aims at making India disaster prepared by involving all the stakeholders (government and private organizations and institutions as well as the masses) in their own safety preparedness through disaster prevention – disaster risk reduction and mitigation.

This is the vacuum Philanthrope aims to fill by transforming you, the Indian citizen into a competent and confident Emergency Responder.

Philanthrope comprises of highly qualified doctors, disaster management experts, educationists, entrepreneurs, researchers, parliamentarians and media professionals working towards the goal of making every Indian prepared to tackle emergencies.


DR. ANGELI QWATRA

Dr. Angeli Qwatra is a disaster management expert having grassroot level experience in the field of disaster preparedness and emergency management. She has been trained in “Crowd Management” and “Emergency Control Centre Operations” from the Emergency Planning College United Kingdom. She is also trained in “Business Continuity Planning” by Disaster Recovery International Institute, Singapore. She is trained in “Practical Aspects of Preparing for, and Responding to, Radiological Terrorism” from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Further, she has undergone training in Disaster Management from National Institute of Disaster Management and World Bank Institute.

As Chairperson of 'Philanthrope', she is involved in a mega project aimed at providing training on disaster preparedness and emergency aid measures to the masses. Philanthrope is a constituent member of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

She is a member of the 'UK-India Bilateral Expert Knowledge Exchange Network on Radiological Safety and Security' under Royal United Services Institute, UK.

Shri Sudershan Aggarwal
Shri Sudershan AggarwalShri Aggarwal served as the Governor of the state of Uttarkhand and as a member of the National Human Rights Commission. He has been significantly allied with a number of social and charitable causes, apart from holding high public office. He is also associated with the Pulse Polio movement and has monitored major developments, in the state, in the fields of education and health. "The Him Jyoti Foundation" and the "Him Karuna" are his brainchild.




Shri. Lalit Mansingh
Shri. Lalit MansinghHe served as Indian ambassador to the United States and the United Arab Emirates and as India's high commissioner to the United Kingdom and Nigeria. He also was deputy chief of mission in the Indian embassies in Kabul, Brussels and Washington, D.C. He has dedicated his career to promoting India and its role in the global market place. Shri. Mansingh is in the Executive Committee of the Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies, Foreign Policy and Security Studies think tank. He is the Professor Emeritus at the Foreign Services Institute of India and a member of the Governing Board of Development Alternatives; member of the India Council for Sustainable Development and President of the World Cultural Forum, India. He is also the diplomatic advisor to the FICCI and Chairman for the FICCI India-U.S. Policy Group and International Advisory Council Member in APCO Worldwide and Bonita Trust. He has been awarded the Kharavela Samman (Kharavela Award).

Shri Krishna V Rajan
Shri Krishna V RajanHe is a former member of the Indian Foreign Service. He has served in senior diplomatic assignments in countries like France, USA, UK, Zambia, Algeria and Nepal. He has also held senior positions in the Government of India as Secretary and Advisor to the Minister; and Member, National Security Advisory Board. He is presently Convenor of a New Delhi based think tank, IILM India Forum and President of the Association of Indian Diplomats. He is also the Executive Vice-Chairman, Universal Peace Federation India, and Advisor of the Asian Energy Institute.


Shri Rakesh Kumar Upadhyay
Shri Krishna V RajanShri Rakesh Kumar Upadhyay former Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL (A Government of India Enterprise) is an Indian Telecom Service Officer (ITS). He joined the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, in 1975 and has accomplished distinguished service in the telecom sector in various offices and Public Sector Undertakings under Ministry of Communications and IT. Before joining BSNL, he worked as CMD of Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd. (TCIL), another Government of India Enterprise, from March, 2007 to April, 2011. In TCIL, he held several important positions, such as Group General Manager (New Technology), Executive Director (Project Monitoring) and Director (Projects). As its CMD, he has to his credit the turnaround of TCIL. He is a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from I.T., B.H.U. (Passed with Honours). He is also a graduate of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington. He was awarded M.Sc.(DS) Degree by Madras University. He has also completed MBA in Marketing Management.

Shri Rana Som
Shri Krishna V RajanShri Rana Som, MA (Economics) served as the Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC Limited, a premier Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. Mr. Som has started his illustrious career way back in 1972 as a Probationary Officer in Calcutta Port Trust. During his association with several industries, he has amassed great strength with resilience to be a practical and visionary leader. In the process, he has displayed exemplary leadership skills in the areas of organizational restructuring and survival. He served as a Functional Director, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Copper Limited and also the Director of Human Resources of State Trading Corporation of India Ltd., prior to his joining NMDC in November, 2007. He is widely known as the Chief Architect of Hindustan Copper Limited's revival. His tenacious efforts coupled with meticulous planning, aggressive marketing strategies and re-engineering skills made the revival successful and also paved way for its path towards prosperity. Ever since his joining NMDC, he has spared no efforts in strengthening the foundation of the Company. He served as the Chairman of NMDC-CMDC Limited and J&K Mineral Development Corporation Limited. He served as a Director of Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd. He has been a Director of Essar Steel India Limited since September 3, 2012. He has a brilliant academic career in Economics and Personnel Management. He was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution for the "Overall Development of Indian Non-Coal Mining Industry through Effective Leadership & Innovation".

Shri K S Subramanian
Shri Krishna V RajanShri K S Subramanian a former officer of the Indian Police Service, is Senior Fellow at Schumacher Centre for Development, New Delhi. He has worked as Assistant Director of the Intelligence Bureau (1967–72); Director, Research and Policy Division, Union Home Ministry, New Delhi (1980–85); Professor, Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi (1991–93); Director General, State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, Government of Tripura (1993–97); and Professor, Academy of Third World Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (2002–03). He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla (1973–75); Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford (1983–84); Centre for Contemporary Studies, Nehru Memorial Library, Teenmurti House, New Delhi (1986–91); and Institute of Development Studies, Sussex (1989–90). He was a member of the Concerned Citizens Tribunal—Gujarat 2002.

Shri A K Saxena
Shri Krishna V RajanShri A.K. Saxena is a former IAS with his last appointment as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Areas of special interests are Human Resources Management System, Procurement Management, Public Private Partnership, Police Reforms, Internal Security, Disaster Management, Human Rights,Protection of Child Rights, etc.

He is a Ph.D. in Science from Lucknow University, studied Law at Delhi University and worked in UPSC, a premier recruiting body of Government of India. Organized/supervised Written/Personality Tests for appointment to Indian Administrative Service & Allied Services, Indian Forest Service, Combined Engineering Service Examination, Medical Services Examination, etc. interaction with Experts/Examiners regarding evaluation of answer sheets, Scaling/Moderation, conduct of Personality Test of candidates short-listed on the basis of the written examination. Also participated in framing of Recruitment Rules/Service Rules for various civil posts/organized services of Union of India.

He has also worked in Ministry of Water Resources, looked after /Establishment matters of the employees of the Ministry and attached /subordinate offices such as Central Water Commission, Central Ground Water Board, National Institute of Hydrology, Water & Power Consultancy services, Central Soil & Materials Research Institute, etc. As the Chief Vigilance Officer of Ministry, looked after vigilance matters (both punitive and preventive) of Ministry and attached/subordinate offices and organized Training Programmes on Vigilance.

In Ministry of Home Affairs, was responsible for HR/Establishment/Welfare/Vigilance. Later, took over as Director in UT in MHA and looked after "Law & Order" and "Police" in National Capital Territory of Delhi and other Establishment/Policy issues of NCT of Delhi including those of NDMC, MCD, DJB.

Prof. Santosh Kumar
Director at SAARC Disaster Management centre and former Head of Policy Planning and Cross-Cutting Issues at the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), NIDM in the Indian Institute of Public Administration is the nodal agency coordinating the relief and rehabilitation measures during natural calamities.
