Today, not only are more people in harm’s way than there were 50 years ago, but building in floodplains, earthquake zones and other high-risk areas has increased the likelihood that a routine natural hazard will become a major catastrophe. Keeping this staggering reality in mind ,a call for action was imperative, hence Philanthrope was founded by Disaster Management expert, Dr Angeli Qwatra, in the year 2007.
‘Philanthrope' is a disaster & risk management initiative as well as a humanitarian, not-for-profit organization registered under 80G, striving to make the most vulnerable communities safer from natural and manmade disasters through awareness, preparedness and mitigation. The organization has been working in partnership with government organizations, and Corporate Sectors in conducting programs on training and capacity building, community preparedness, school safety, knowledge building, and urban risk reduction. We believe that if people are trained in emergency management, injuries caused due to natural and man-made disasters and sudden illnesses can be effectively managed till professional medical assistance reaches the victim. Our intensive research in India has highlighted critical errors people make in times of emergencies due to lack of awareness and preparedness to handle an emergency situation. Our extensive research and analysis reveals that when at least 30% of the population is trained in disaster preparedness, the chances of survival of victims increase significantly. Therefore, with the aim of saving lives, we conduct Trainings by Dr. Angeli Qwatra on Safety Preparedness and Emergency.
“To ensure that everyone is empowered in the area of disaster preparedness, rescue management, emergency aid measures and health & safety procedures.”
